Ukrainian Cultural breakthrough: Kyiv’s New Era Orchestra will perform two Concerts in Kyiv and Odesa with Superstar American Violinist Joshua Bell

New Era Orchestra, one of the most renowned orchestras in Ukraine, led by its Art Director and Conductor Tatiana Kalinichenko, performs two concerts with Maestro Joshua Bell (violin, USA): on May 22 at the National Odessa Opera and on May 23 in Kyiv at the National Philharmonic of Ukraine.

Joshua Bell is one of the most celebrated violinists of his era, who won GRAMMY®, Mercury®, Gramophone and OPUS CLASSIC awards, as well as the Avery Fisher Prize. He has played with virtually all of the leading orchestras in the world, performed for three U.S. Presidents and recorded music for a number of feature films, including an Academy Award winner The Red Violin, as well as appeared in the Amazon series Mozart in the Jungle and in numerous TV specials and documentaries.

New Era Orchestra is considered to be one of the most successful independent orchestras in Ukraine and is a cultural ambassador of Ukraine on the world’s music stage. Since 2007 New Era Orchestra has been consistently acclaimed by Ukrainian and international audiences. Its musicians combine virtuosity with innovative spirit, finding unexpected parallels between classical and contemporary music, while Maestro Kalinichenko’s conducting style is known for its expressivity and radiant energy.

Europe is gradually reopening, following lockdowns caused by the pandemic, and these concerts will be the first major live cultural events in Ukraine in more than a year. The concerts will be held in strict compliance with the public health safety regulations and protocols.

Maestro Bell, the New Era Orchestra and Maestro Kalinichenko support music education, and so young talented musicians will participate in the Odessa and Kyiv concerts. A portion of the tickets for both concerts will be distributed free of charge among music school teachers.

In 2007 Washington Post newspaper has conducted an experiment, centered on Bell performing incognito in a Washington D.C. mero station. During his performance, which was on a busy morning, more than 1000 people passed by the violinist, and only few stopped to listen, with the donations amounting to $32. The news about this experiment spread around the world and sparked an ongoing conversation about artistic reception and context.

Maestro Bell performs on the 1713 Huberman Stradivarius violin.
